Worked examples

Knock and undercut: three small examples

The comparison uses the defender’s final count.

Ordinary difference

In our training profile, a knocker with six and a defender with fourteen produces an eight-point award to the knocker. The defender’s fourteen must already reflect permitted layoffs.

A lower defender count

If those counts are six and four, the defender earns twelve: the two-point difference plus our ten-point undercut bonus. The scorebook names the winning side rather than adding the award to the player selected as knocker automatically.

An equal count

Six against six is still an undercut of a non-Gin knock. Under this profile the defender receives ten. It is not a zero-score tie.

A deliberately limited ledger

Our target is one hundred, but the round award is not clipped. Final-game, box and shutout bonuses are omitted. The scorebook repeats this profile so a saved total has a clear meaning. Check your own app or table before copying a bonus value.
